There is nothing more suited to our well-endowed African continent than energy that is green and clean. We have superior sun, prime wind and in many places strongly flowing water. Those are the ingredients needed for renewable power at its cleanest.

What the Motsepe Foundation, working with the Milken Institute, will do is reward designs that provide innovative access to green, renewable energy for an estimated 600-million Africans in need of it. This follows the same organisations supporting agriculture in a similar way not that long ago.

It is also important to remember that Africa has a huge opportunity to create a massive minerals, energy and agricultural complex and it is initiatives like those taken by the Motsepe Foundation and Milken that serve as catalysts to us to realise our economic dreams.
