(South Africa, November 2021) Enza Construction (Pty) Ltd, one of Africa’s leading construction companies has been awarded the AfriSam Innovation Award for Sustainable Construction at the 2021 Construction World Best Projects Awards

for the work completed on the Vopak Terminal Lesedi Administration Building in Heidelberg Lesedi Gauteng.

Now in its 20th year, Construction World Best Projects is the only award in South Africa that celebrates excellence across the entire built environment and recognises civil engineers, building contractors, specialist contractors and suppliers, architects and consulting engineers. In addition, the ‘Innovation award for sustainable construction’ sponsored by AfriSam is given to excellence in construction sustainability. AfriSam has also been the main sponsor of the event since Best Projects’ inception.

Chief Executive Officer of Enza Construction, Mr Rowan Crowie  says “Our construction environmental policy ensures that we take care of our valuable resources, water and preserve the planet we live on.”

The architects and design teams were instrumental in well- insulating both the building and the efficient use of natural ventilation in order to regulate the building climate.

“We recycled waste and minimised our waste to landfill sites,” says Mr Rowan Crowie. “In addition, special attention was given to local sourcing of material.

Architects (Messaris Wapenaar Cole) and Design Team (Zutari) adopted an industry-leading approach to renewable materials, energy, water efficiency, indoor environment quality enhancements, waste reduction and the optimisation of the building management systems.

Special attention was given to local sourcing of materials, the encouragement of natural airflow throughout the building, the use of natural light and the recycling construction waste which would typically be destined for landfill sites.

For over two decades, Enza Construction has been a key player in the industry, driven by its commitment to unwavering quality and integrity, making it one of the leading construction companies in South Africa providing civils, housing, turnkey design and construction solutions to the market.  Enza is 100% Black owned and controlled, and is a Level 1 BBBEE Contributor.
