Vaal dam water levels improve
The water levels of the Vaal dam have improved 3.3%, reaching 110.5% as rainfall continues inland.
The latest information released by the Department of Water and Sanitation shows that, last week, the dam stood at 105.4%, while last year at the same time it was at 71.4%.
Also recording an increase this week is the Grootdraai dam, which reported an increase from 101.8% last week and 102.2% this time last year to 102.3% this week.
The water levels of the Bloemhof dam increased from 103.1% last week and 104.8% in the comparative period last year to 109% this week.
The Sterkfontein dam water levels reached 101.9% from the 96.1% recorded this week last year.
The Sterkfontein dam, one of the 14 dams in the Integrated Vaal River System (IVRS), replenishes the system when required.
Meanwhile, the Mohale dam in Lesotho improved slightly from 63.6% last week to 66.2% this week. In the comparative week last year, the dam was at a low of 26.8%.
The Katse dam, also in Lesotho, is currently at 100.5%, up from 99.2% last week and 54.8% in the comparative week last year.
Overall, the IVRS increased to 100.5% from 98.4% last week and 76.4% last year.
