Dates: 10–11 September 2026

Location: Johannesburg

Slope Stability X26 (SSX26) is South Africa's premier conference and expo dedicated to advancing safe, sustainable slope stability practices across the mining, civil engineering, and infrastructure sectors. Taking place on 10–11 September 2026 at the award-winning Garden Venue & Boutique Hotel in Northriding, Johannesburg, this two-day event brings together geotechnical engineers, mine planners, regulators, and industry leaders from across Africa to explore the "disconnects" behind major slope failures — the often-overlooked gaps in communication, data, and process that can escalate into serious risk.

The event is themed around exploring the disconnects behind major slope failures, with a focus on strengthening decision-making at every stage of a slope stability project's lifecycle. Programming is structured around five core themes that mirror the full slope stability project lifecycle:

Investigation & Site Characterisation — Advanced testing and investigation methods for reliable subsurface data, covering field investigations, laboratory testing, geophysical methods, and modern data interpretation tools.

Design & Planning — Integrated design approaches using geotechnical software, numerical modelling, digital twins, AI/machine learning, and real-time monitoring data to build resilient, real-world designs.

Construction & Execution — Practical strategies for retaining walls, rockfall protection barriers, and reinforced embankments that hold up under real construction pressures.

Monitoring & Operations — Early-warning technologies including slope stability radar, InSAR satellite monitoring, automated prism systems, piezometers, inclinometers, drone-based LiDAR, IoT sensors, and AI-driven predictive models.

Risk & Governance — Insights from compliance leaders and policymakers on turning regulatory frameworks into real protection for operations and communities.

Delegates will hear from a strong lineup of confirmed 2026 speakers, including Madidimalo (Aubrey) Phoko and Patronella Molutsi of Exxaro Resources, Moses Skosana of Anglo American, Nyeleti Masole of Foskor, Khomotso Moleke of M84 Geotech, Thabang Matlala of Menar Group, Dr. Amu Manyike-Modau of Vedanta Zinc International, Christine Thikusho of Swakop Uranium Namibia, Lehana Bulane of Letšeng Diamond Mine, and Johan Du Plessis of Prokon SA.

Following strong industry support, SSX26 has moved to the newly announced Garden Venue & Boutique Hotel in Northriding, Johannesburg — a venue offering on-site boutique accommodation, over three hectares of landscaped gardens, multiple breakout and collaboration spaces, expanded outdoor exhibition zones, and enhanced facilities for technical workshops and media production.

SSX26 is supported by Official Media Partners Mining Weekly and Engineering News, alongside sponsors and exhibitors M84 Geotech, Geobrugg, Maptek, and FourNomads (Corporate Social Investment Partner).

The event is designed for professionals across the full slope stability value chain: geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, hydrogeologists, civil and structural engineers, mine planning engineers, monitoring specialists, project and construction managers, HSE officers, regulators, policy advisors, risk managers, academic researchers, and executive leaders responsible for slope-heavy projects across mining, infrastructure, and energy.

Early-bird pricing is currently available for registration.
