Singapore-based fully integrated water solutions supplier Hyflux Membrane Manufacturing (Hyflux) has chosen engineering advisory firm and assurance services company Lloyd’s Register Energy as its American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) inspection services provider for boilers and pressure vessels.

Receiving the official certification in October last year, Hyflux quality manager Jessie Tan Sue Suan says the Lloyd’s Register Energy team responded to Hyflux’s requests both readily and proactively. “In particular, their two-day ASME basic training workshop for our engineers played a significant role in ensuring our readiness for the certification audit,” he says.

Boiler and pressure vessel manufacturers wanting to export to North America are routinely required to comply with the requirements of the ASME code, which defines internationally recognised standards for the design, manufacture, inspection and testing of all kinds of pressure vessels.

Each ASME certificate holder must choose an authorised inspection agency (AIA), which is responsible for performing all inspections of ASME pressure equipment. LR Insurance is the registered AIA of Lloyd’s Register Energy.

Lloyd’s Register Energy Inspection Services senior VP Pascal Coudeville highlights its contract with Hyflux as a milestone win. He notes that initial training forms part of the company’s ASME service as this ensures that they fully understand the specifics of the code requirements and can be clear on what is necessary for the certification audits.

“It is this level of detail in the training, along with Lloyd’s Register’s 40 years of ASME experience, that enable us to support clients like Hyflux through the process, ensuring that their quality systems meet ASME requirements.”

Industry forecasts indicate steady growth in Asia’s manufacturing sector. Singapore reported 9.8% yearly growth during the first quarter, plus an estimated total compound yearly growth rate of 7.5% across South-East Asia.
