Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

Project Description
The DWS plans to build a dam downstream of the confluence of the Greater Letaba and Nwanedzi rivers. The dam is 34 m above the riverbed and 43.5 m above the estimated lowest foundation.

It is envisaged that a dam at the Nwamitwa site will have a storage capacity of 187-million cubic metres and will increase the firm yield from the river system for domestic use by 14-million cubic metres a year.

Potential Job Creation
The number of jobs to be created will be after the procurement strategy on the project has been finalised.

Capital Expenditure
The project is estimated at R3.76-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Latest Developments
The DWS states in its Annual Performance Plan: 2023/24 to 2025/26 that the project is in the design stage.
