Global group wins EPC contract for chemicals project in SA

The South African subsidiary of global engineering and construction group Foster Wheeler, Foster Wheeler South Africa, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Senmin International for a new facility to produce carbon disulphide and recover sulphur from hydrogen sulphide.

The plant will be located at Sasolburg in South Africa and is scheduled for completion in 2009.

"We are pleased to have been selected by Senmin for the EPC phase of this project, and we hope that this develops into a long and successful relationship between our two companies," said Foster Wheeler South Africa MD Steve Scott.

"With extensive experience in the chemicals industry and many years of experience in project delivery at Sasolburg, we will leverage our technical expertise and extensive project execution experience to assist Senmin in realising its business objectives."

The value of the contract was not disclosed and will be included in the company's third-quarter 2008 bookings.

Foster Wheeler is a international engineering and construction contractor that also supplies power equipment. The company employs more than 14 000 people who serve Foster Wheeler's clients through two primary business groups.

The company's Engineering & Construction Group designs and constructs processing facilities for the upstream oil and gas, liquefied natural gas and gas-to-liquids industry, as well as the refining, chemicals and petrochemicals, power, environmental, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and healthcare industries.

The company's Global Power Group competes in the combustion and steam generation technology market that designs, manufactures and erects steam generating and auxiliary equipment for power stations and industrial facilities and also provides a range of aftermarket services.

The company is based in Hamilton, Bermuda, and its operational headquarters are in
Clinton, New Jersey, US.
