The first gold pour for the Manh Choh mine, in Alaska, will take place at the Fort Knox mill facility on July 8, joint venture (JV) partner Contango announced on Tuesday.

The event marks a culmination of efforts since the inception of the Manh Choh project, characterised by its high-quality gold deposit and robust operational advancements, said Cantango CEO and president Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse.

"This is indeed a grand milestone event for the company and its shareholders. Since its discovery, the Manh Choh project has stood out as a very high-quality deposit with exceptional grade for an openpit gold mine."

The project, developed through the Peak Gold JV with Kinross formed in September 2020, underwent a comprehensive feasibility study affirming its economic viability. Subsequently, Peak Gold successfully navigated permitting and completed construction, initiating mining operations in August 2023 and commencing ore hauling by November 2023.

With a substantial ore stockpile now in place at the Fort Knox facility, preparations are under way for the inaugural gold pour.
