Brazil-based global major aerospace group Embraer has reported that, during the second quarter of this year, it delivered 170% more commercial jets (airliners) than it had done during the first quarter of the year. Second quarter 2024 (2Q24) deliveries of commercial jets totalled 19, as against the figure of seven for 1Q24. Total commercial jet deliveries during the first half of this year (1H24) came to 26 aircraft (the equivalent figure for 1H23 had been 24).

Also in quarter-on-quarter terms, the group’s deliveries of executive (business) jets rose 50% in 2Q24. In numbers, 27 executive jets were delivered in 2Q24, compared with 18 in 1Q24. For 1H24, total business jet deliveries came to 45, as against the 38 delivered during 1H23.

Embraer’s total order backlog reached $21.1-billion at the end of 2Q24. This was a more than 20% increase, year-on-year, and the group’s biggest backlog in seven years.

In terms of types, 2Q24 saw the delivery of seven E195-E2s (Embraer’s biggest airliner model), four E190-E2s and eight E175s. (The E175 is the only original generation E-Jet model still in production; the types with the -E2 suffix are the next generation E-Jet models.) In 1Q24 the respective figures had been four, zero, and three. Consequently, the numbers for 1H24 were 11 E195-E2s, four E190-E2s and 11 E175s. The respective figures for 1H23 had been 12, zero, and 12.

Commercial Aviation’s order backlog in 2Q24 increased by 2%, quarter-on-quarter, reaching a total of $11.3-billion.

As for the executive jets, the 2Q24 deliveries had been split into 20 light jets and seven medium jets, as against 11 light jets and also seven medium jets in 1Q24, giving a total of 31 light jets and 14 medium jets for 1H24 (the respective figures for 1H24 being 25 and 13). For 2Q24, the light jets were subdivided into two Phenom 100s and 18 Phenom 300s, while the medium jets were subdivided into three Praetor 500s and four Praetor 600s.

The order backlog for executive jets came to $4.6-billion in 2Q24, a slight (1%) increase over 1Q24.

Also, during 2Q24, Embraer’s Defence & Security business had delivered one C-390 Millenium airlift aircraft, to the Portuguese Air Force (FAP). This was the FAP’s second C-390. The service has ordered five of the aircraft, the largest type so far developed by the company. No C-390s were delivered during 1Q24.

Defence & Security’s order backlog in 2Q24 decreased 10%, quarter-on-quarter, and came to $2.1-billion.

Embraer’s Services & Support business had an order backlog worth $3.1-billion during 2Q24, which was essentially the same figure as for 1Q24.
