Control valve reduces health and safety risk

Multinational engineering and technology corporation Metso says the strengthened design of its new Neles Finetrol rotary control valve reduces health and safety risks, while achieving the ISO 15848-1 class BH fugitive-emission-type approval certificate.

The high-performance packing tight-ness of the Neles Finetrol rotary control valve improves reliability and efficiency, while preventing the loss of both raw material and end product, the manufac-turer states.

Metso says health and safety risks arise from leakages from gland packing, which can cause severe damage to personnel and to the immediate surroundings, particularly when noxious flow media are involved.

Requirements of the ISO 15848-1 class BH emission level constitute a simple, cost-effective way to decrease overall fugitive emissions, which provides a safer process environment and a cleaner atmosphere.

The company says the Neles Finetrol rotary control valve also offers direct savings owing to reduced control variability and lower flow media consump-tion, resulting in improved control perfor-mance and enhanced end-product quality, decreased valve reversals and reduced energy consumption.

The improved valve performance and gland-packing tightness mean less maintenance and a longer valve life cycle, reducing associated costs.

The approval certificate covers the one- to ten-inch-size range and the ASME 150 and 300 pressure classes. Quarter-turn valve design, combined with live-loaded packing, is accepted as the most efficient and environment-friendly solution for all control valve applications, owing to its low fugitive emissions, Metso states.

Metso is a global supplier of sustainable technology and services to the mining, construction, power generation, auto-mation, recycling and pulp and paper industries.
