ASX-listed West African Resources has made significant progress on its Kiaka gold project, in Burkina Faso, as construction continues to advance on the 219 000 oz/y operation.

In particular, the company is nearing completion of a water storage dam and bulk earthworks for a mining services area.

West African has started with carbon-in-leach tank welding and bulk earthworks for a tailings storage facility, while its semiautogenous grinding mill has arrived on site for installation.

The project will start producing gold in the third quarter of 2025 and will operate for 18-and-a-half years.

The company owns 90% of the Kiaka project, with the remaining interest held by the government of Burkina Faso.

Kiaka is located 45 km from the company’s flagship Sanbrado operation, which produced 226 823 oz of gold last year.
