Midtier copper miner Taseko Mines is resuming operations at its Gibraltar mine, in British Columbia, on Wednesday, as a labour agreement has been ratified.
The company announced earlier this week that it had reached an agreement with the union representing workers at Gibraltar. The new agreement will be in place until May 31, 2027.
Milling in concentrator #2 is restarting on Wednesday, while concentrator #1 will remain idle while the crusher relocation project and other scheduled maintenance is being completed.
About 550 workers at the copper mine, north of Williams Lake, walked off the job on June 1, after negotiations between Taseko and private sector union Unifor did not result in an agreement.
Gibraltar is the second-biggest openpit copper mine in Canada and the biggest employer in the Cariboo region.
With a processing capacity of 85 000 t/d, Gibraltar produces an average of 130-million pounds a year of copper.
