South Africa simply must get mineral exploration going again at pace

South Africa’s Exploration Plan, released in 2022, set an ambitious target of raising South Africa’s share of global exploration dollars from below the 1% where it is now to 5% in as many years.

Just as public-private partnerships are helping to alleviate South Africa’s energy and logistics crises, similar public-private collaboration is needed to ensure that South Africa’s mining industry does everything in its power to maintain its export level.

This month’s exploration webinar that is being arranged by Minerals Council South Africa has fairly balanced public-private participation, which is promising. Our struggling economy can benefit relatively quickly from getting exploration going again at pace and it must be facilitated to do so.
