Q2 domestic cement sales down 5.1%

Domestic cement sales declined by 5.1% year-on-year to 3.04-million tons during the three months ended June 30, cement producer PPC announced on Thursday.

The second-quarter sales were, however, higher than the 2.48-million tons sold during the first quarter, which reflected a 5.4% year-on-year drop.

The sales volume for the year to date, at 5.52-million tons, was also 5.2% lower than the 5.82-million tons sold during the first two quarters of 2013.

Meanwhile, second-quarter selling days, at 59, were down 4.8% year-on-year, after having increased by 1.6% year-on-year to 62 days during the first quarter.

This translated into sales a day falling by 0.2% year-on-year to 51 505 t during the three months ended June.

PPC noted that volumes reported included its own sales figures in conjunction with those of Lafarge, AfriSam, NPC, Ash Resources, Sephaku Ash, Sephaku Cement and Ulula Ash, and excluded exports and sales to neighbouring countries.

Imports and sales by companies other than those listed were also not included.
