MetroKin, comprising Trans Connexion Congo, the Société Commerciale des Transports et des Ports, and the City of Kinshasa.

The Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) is a co-developer, an investor and mandated lead arranger for the project.

Project Description
Kinshasa, the most populous city in Africa, faces critical transport infrastructure challenges, aggravated by rapid population growth and inadequate development. The current transportation system meets less than half of the daily demand, according to the city’s urban transport masterplan.

The project aims to develop a mass transit system exceeding 300 km of railroad in Kinshasa.

The project will be undertaken in four phases, starting with the overhaul of a 25 km stretch from Kinshasa’s central station to N’Djili International Airport, completely upgrading the existing railway.

Phase 2 involves the 75-km-long Kinshasa plain, and Phase 3 the 90 km Kinshasa city loop.

The final phase involves an 80 km stretch from the airport to Malaku.

AFC is making an initial $3-million investment in the completion of the project development activities, which will take the project to financial close as early as the fourth quarter of 2024, as currently planned.
