Malawi’s Roads Authority (RA) is inviting applications from eligible bidders wishing to prequalify for the rehabilitation of the 75 km Liwonde–Mangochi and 46 km Mzuzu–Nkhata Bay roads.

Procedures

The two projects will be financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB). Prequalification will be conducted in line with procedures specified in the bank’s Rules and Procedures for the Procurement of Goods and Works.

Prequalification documents in English may be bought for $100 each and must be submitted by June 1.

The Liwonde–Mangochi road rehabilitation project is part of the multinational Nacala Road Corridor Project, which involves the rehabilitation of selected roads in Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique, while the construction of the Mzuzu–Nkhata Bay road falls under Phase 2 of the Malawi Trunk Roads Rehabilitation Project.

Resettlement Meanwhile, the RA is seeking expressions of interest from eligible consulting firms to undertake an environmental-impact assessment and resettlement action plan for the improvement of the Kacheche–Chiweta and Mzimba Turnoff–Mzuzu–Kacheche road projects.

The two consultancy assign-ments will be financed by the World Bank as part of the Southern Africa Trade and Transport Facilitation Programme.
Selection Criteria Says the RA: “Consultants may associate with other firms in the form of a joint venture or subconsultancy to enhance their qualifications. “A consultant will be selected in accordance with quality- and cost-based selection criteria set out in the World Bank’s consultant guidelines.”

The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is May 20.
