Macneil Steel

Established in 1983, Macneil Steel & Valves (MSV) is involved in the importing, stocking, sales and distribution of many types of industrial valves. It is also the official distributor of South African valves manufacturer, Dynamic Fluid Control (DFC), which includes carrying extensive stocks of specific ranges of their products to offer an ex-stock delivery to the local market.

Along with these activities, MSV has been entrenched in the supply of valves to the water treatment and wastewater treatment market for over 20 years, offering total valves packages to contractors and end-users.

From a stocking point of view, MSV carries extensive stocks of general purpose wafer butterfly valves, stainless steel and carbon steel ball valves (both threaded and flanged ends), SS needle valves and SS check valves, Checkrite wafer check valves, as well as the locally manufactured Vent-O-Mat air release valves, Leveldex float control valves, Vosa swing check valves and Vosa equilibrium float valves. Recently, MSV also took delivery of almost R1-million of Cla-Val control valves and spares as part of its ongoing relationship with DFC.

The company is situated at 1575 Staal street, in Knights, Germiston and employs 15 people. Although MSV is not Nosa- or International Standards Organistation- (ISO-) certified, the management at MSV is conscious of safety in the workplace and all warehouse staff are issued with labelled protective work-wear and safety boots, as well as being regularly instructed regarding safety issues. All of MSV’s imported products are purchased from suppliers that are ISO-certified as part of its normal business practice and the locally manufactured valves purchased from DFC fall under the relevant South African Bureau of Standards and ISO standards.

The company has two shareholders, Tony Macneil and Brian Saverton. Macneil has been with MSV since its inception and started the company from a small side-street shop in the middle of Germiston and Saverton has been with MSV since 1993.

Apart from MSV’s offices and warehouse which has a 5 t overhead crane to ease offloading and loading of valves, it also has a fleet of delivery vehicles with enough capacity to deliver 5 t of equipment at any one time.

MSV has been involved with significant contracts in the last six months, including the Zeekoegat wastewater treatment works (WWTW), in Pretoria; the upgrade of the aeration systems of seven water treatment plants in Cape Town; the rehabilitation of the KwaMashu WWTW in KwaZulu-Natal, as well as the upgrade of the Bushkoppies WWTW, in Gauteng, and the Bellville WWTW in Cape Town.
