Globeleq appoints Hoffman interim CEO

Globeleq chief development officer and interim CEO Jonathan Hoffman

Independent power company Globeleq has appointed Jonathan Hoffman interim CEO, effective end-June.

He has been chief development officer of the company since 2020 and will be succeeding Mike Scholey as CEO once he steps down.

Scholey will, however, be chairing the board’s investment committee in coming months to provide continuity while a permanent CEO is recruited.

Globeleq chairperson Laurence Mulliez says Hoffman has helped the company to secure deals and new investments across Africa, including the Red Sands award, which marks the largest standalone battery storage project in Africa.

Hoffman brings to his new position more than 20 years of experience in the power sector, having previously worked for ABB Energy Ventures and InfraCo – the latter of which he co-founded.

In turn, through Scholey’s leadership, Globeleq survived the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and grew into using new technologies and having footprints in new countries.

Globeleq has grown to have 1 800 MW of power assets across Africa, with another 500 MW currently under construction.
