Glencore Australia has announced the opening of its 2025 apprenticeship programme for applications, inviting aspiring candidates to apply for an opportunity or skills development and hands-on experience in the coal industry in New South Wales and Queensland.

Scheduled to kick off in January, the programme promises a blend of hands-on learning, industry exposure and avenues for career growth, says Glencore Coal human resources manager Stella De Best.

The initiative encompasses a mix of onsite, off-site and TAFE-based training. Participants will have the chance to explore regional Australia, with positions available across Glencore Coal operations in the Hunter Valley, Mudgee regions and the Bowen basin.

Glencore Coal is seeking applications in various specialised fields, including auto electrician, metal fabrication, electrician, mechanical (underground fitter), plant mechanic, boiler maker and diesel mechanic/fitter.

To qualify for consideration, candidates must have completed at least year ten by the end of 2024 to be considered. Glencore also encourages mature age candidates to apply.

Applications will be open until June 2.
