As part of a change in its leadership structure, underscoring its commitment to inclusivity, representation and effective governance, the board of the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA) has appointed Professor Khangwelo Desmond Musetsho chairperson and Jacqui Hex vice-chairperson.

During a general meeting held on May 10, the nomination and appointment of board members was conducted in accordance with the organisation’s constitutional provisions, says EAPASA.

Subsequently, the new board had a full sitting on May 23 at which Musetsho and Hex were elected as chairperson and vice chairperson, respectively.

Other members of the board include Minnette Le Roux, Thomas Tshabalala, Dr Jennifer Molwantwa, Khathutshelo Tshipala, Sabelo Nkosi, Snowy Makhudu and Emmy Molepo.

“Beyond demographic representation, the newly appointed board members bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the table. Their competencies span various fields including legal, environmental studies and governance, positioning EAPASA well to tackle the challenges and opportunities within the environmental assessment sector in South Africa.

“The EAPASA board is excited about the future and remains committed to advancing environmental assessment practices in South Africa, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” says EAPASA.

The organisation was appointed, and is mandated by, Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Barbara Creecy as the single sole registration and regulatory authority for environmental assessment practitioners in South Africa.
