Contractor employee dies at Kenmare’s Moma mine

Moma mine, in Mozambique

London-listed Kenmare Resources has reported the death of an excavator operator, who was employed by a contractor at the Moma titanium minerals mine, in Mozambique.

The operator was involved in a fatal incident during the night shift on June 1, when a team of employees were establishing a new dry mining area for the Wet Concentrator Plant (WCP) A operations.

After suspending all mining and processing activity at the mine following the incident, Kenmare has since resumed operations at the mine on June 3 – barring the WCP A mining operations to allow investigations to continue.

“We are conducting further investigations to understand why this tragedy occurred and how to prevent it from happening again. The safety and wellbeing of our employees and contractors is our highest priority, as was reinforced to our team by senior site leadership during the weekend’s safety stand-down,” says MD Michael Carvill.
