Consol Energy resumes shipments from marine terminal in Baltimore

Coal producer Consol Energy said on Tuesday shipments to international markets have resumed from its marine terminal in Baltimore.

Coal exports from the busy US port of Baltimore were disrupted in March following the collapse of a bridge that was struck by a massive cargo ship. Consol's terminal was also shut following the incident.

The first shipment leaving the terminal was about 56 000 net tons, compared with traditional shipments of about 140 000 net tons in larger vessels, the company said.

"While we are still limited in terms of size of ships and night-time departures, we are hopeful to resume normal operations as soon as possible," CEO Jimmy Brock said in a statement.
