Law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH) has announced the appointment of new dispute resolution director Marelise van der Westhuizen as of May 1.

CDH CEO Brent Williams noted on May 13 that Van der Westhuizen had received good client feedback.

He said she brings significant expertise and client-centricity in dispute resolution to the table, particularly in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation, banking, State-owned enterprises, mining, minerals, natural resources and energy.

Van der Westhuizen also has extensive experience in advising the financial sector on applicable regulatory laws and in particular compliance with the Financial Intelligence Centre Act and the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.

She previously led the dispute resolution department at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa before taking up the position of chairperson and subsequently CEO, where she led the firm through the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We know that [Van der Westhuizen] will exceed our clients’ expectations as she brings her skills to bear on their matters,” Williams said.
