South African steel fabrication and construction company Cosira Group reports that work is progressing well on the recently awarded supply contract for Riversdale’s Benga coal processing and wash plant (CPWP) project, in Mozambique.

The contract, which is due for completion in January 2011, requires the detailing, fabrication and supply of about 1 680 t of structural steel- and platework, including all associated grating, hand-railing, sheeting and fasteners.

Cosira GM Barend du Toit reports that the Tete and Moatize areas of Mozambique have significant growth poten-
tial, and the company is pleased to be awarded this contact in Africa’s newest coal-rich area.

“Owing to the nature of the
resource and its accessibility, the area will see significant development over the next decade,” Du Toit adds.

All detailing and fabrication are being completed at Cosira’s Vulcan manufacturing facility, which is situated in Vulcania, outside Johannesburg.

Cosira Group estimator Eugene Blignaut reports that among the challenges that the company faces on this contract is the fact that the project has been significantly fast-tracked for completion.

“However, despite the tight deadline, at the moment, Cosira is on track to complet-ing the project within the required timeframe,” says Blignaut.

The client will also be
able to track the progress of work at all times by using Cosira’s enterprise logistics system
