New tracking device offers continuous visibility
Technology services provider Wireless Intelligent Sensing Technology (WiST) has launched sensory tracking devices for various applications to assist in tracking clients’ products throughout the supply chain process to ensure business continuity.
The devices are applicable in industries such as asset management, finance, insurance, logistics, retail, medical, security, social and conservation, where they are particularly used in protecting rhinos.
CEO Gert Botha told delegates at the prod-uct launch earlier this month that the company offered a complete security turnkey service no matter how large or small the application.
“The sensors are small in size, have the battery life of five years and use near-field communication technology to detect the whereabouts of the assets from point to point,” he said.
Botha reported that the sensors could be attached to personal items and could also be built into business assets. “The sensors offer real-time location data and the tags provide the temperature of the asset location and even the heartbeat in relation to humans and animals.”
The conservation application is a break-through, particularly in light of the rhino-poaching crisis in South Africa. “The WiST technology allows for a rhino to be tracked in real time and by the minute. Previously, owing to the short battery life of the tracking systems, rhinos could only be tracked through nine updates a day. A distressed rhino can now be identified during an incident and this improves the chances of dealing with any crime,” said Botha.
TechologyWiST reports that the technology provides clients with information and the intelligence to regain control for both professional and personal benefits. Client data readings can be accessed by clients through the Web on a daily basis.
