Some of the biggest names in auctioneering in South Africa and some rising stars were singled out for awards at the South African Institute of Auctioneers’ (SAIA) prestigious annual awards ceremony in Johannesburg recently. The awards celebrated excellence across various categories, recognising both emerging talents and seasoned professionals who have made significant impacts in the field.

In the biggest news of the evening well-known veteran auctioneer, Clive Lazarus, was inducted into the SAIA Hall of Fame, a recognition of his unparalleled success and enduring contributions to the auction industry. With a career spanning over 30 years, Clive has been celebrated for his innovation, leadership and the lasting legacy he continues to create and truly setting a high standard for future generations.

Equally impressive awards were bestowed on some stalwarts and firebrands including Philip Powell who received the SAIA Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his lifelong dedication to excellence and leadership in the auction industry. Philip’s career longevity, breadth of influence and ability to inspire others have made a lasting impact on the community and the industry.

Nico Maree was honoured with the Industry Pioneer Award for his visionary leadership and innovative ideas and methods which have significantly shaped the industry. Joff Van Reenen received the SAIA Brand Ambassador Award for his exceptional dedication and influence in promoting SAIA’s mission within the auctioneering industry and the broader community. His efforts in enhancing SAIA’s visibility and fostering industry relationships have strengthened public trust and advanced the organisation’s objectives.

Kwanele Boltina was recognised as the SAIA Most Improved Auctioneer for his significant strides in auctioneering over the past year. His enhanced skills, increased sales success and ability to captivate audiences set him apart. Molemo Motheogane was awarded SAIA Best Young/Newcomer for his extraordinary potential and skill in auctioneering. Despite being under 30 years of age and having entered the industry within the last 24 months, Molemo has demonstrated innovation, dedication and a fresh perspective.

Tsitso Setai received the SAIA Transformation Award for his substantial contributions to empowerment and transformation in the auction industry. Tsitso’s efforts in breaking barriers and promoting equality and justice have created significant positive changes in the community. Creative Rides won the SAIA Auction of the Year Award for the Louis Coetzer Lost Barn Find Collection, celebrated for its exceptional planning, execution and results.

Stef Olivier was honoured with the SAIA Charity Auction of the Year Award for his remarkable contributions to charitable causes through auctioneering, conducting numerous charity and fundraising auctions. The SAIA Chairman's Award, the highest honour bestowed by SAIA, was presented to SAIA’s National Secretary, Sonja Styger. Recognized for her exceptional leadership, commitment and contributions to the success of the auctioneering profession, Sonja exemplifies the highest standards of integrity and professionalism and inspiring others.
