Thailand

Thailand is a country in South-East Asia, bordered by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia, with coastlines on the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The capital and largest city is Bangkok. With a population of about 70-million, Thailand is the second-largest economy in South-East Asia, driven by manufacturing, agriculture, tourism and services. Key exports include electronics, automobiles, machinery, processed foods, rubber and textiles. The currency is the baht. Thailand is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system, though its recent political history has been marked by periods of military rule. The country is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and the World Trade Organization. Manufacturing sectors such as automotive assembly, electronics and appliances have made Thailand a significant exporter to global markets, including Africa. The economy has industrialised rapidly since the 1980s, transitioning from an agriculture-based system to one anchored by export-oriented manufacturing. Thailand's trade policies and competitive production costs have occasionally brought it into antidumping and trade-remedy disputes with importing countries seeking to protect domestic industries.
