The capital equipment division of the Becker Group of Companies, Becker Mining Africa, has extended its product range to include local electrical equipment specialist Emis’s transformers and switchgear combinations, designed for the distribution of electricity, energy cogeneration, rectification and traction.
“Emis compact switchgear units are manu- factured to exact specifications for use in diverse industries, including hazardous environments. These units have power ratings up to 4 000 kVA and are available with primary nominal voltages up to 11 kV and second- ary nominal voltages up to 3,3 kV,” says Becker Group of Companies CEO Ken Quick.
He explains that the product uses plug-in technology, with integrated monitoring and control functions, which enables all connections to be established automatically. The Emis transformers are designed for easy setting and maintenance.
Flameproof transformers have separate flameproof enclosures, which means that they can be combined with other tank designs. There are up to eight shoeboxes for motor/lighting circuits, but up to 12 outlets are possible. There is an isolator for each plug-in unit, as well as an electrical forward/reverse switch. This motorised phase reversing switch allows the direction of rotation of the outgoing circuit to be changed within seconds.
Further, individual items can be reversed without affecting other outlets. Two quick opening doors are mechanically interlocked and each flameproof transformer can be equipped with a high-voltage (11 kV or 6,6 kV) cubicle.
Nonflameproof transformers, which are sealed or free-ventilated units, are manufactured with customised medium- and low-voltage ends, with power ratings up to 3 000 kVA.
“The Emis range includes a conveyor starter and distribution panels, direct on-line starters, gate-end boxes, stop/start stations, as well as isolators and enclosures.”
