Destination marketing organisation Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU), together with national tourism agency South African Tourism, will launch a pilot project for the national body’s content management system, the National Tourism Product Database (NTDB), in the Western Cape, in April.
The NTDB will provide exposure for tourism service providers in the online space, allowing them to advertise their services and products directly to the South African tourism market through a website.
“Small companies will receive the same exposure as big companies, allowing them to compete with more established companies. “This will also allow tourism authorities to determine how many tourism service providers are operating in the various areas of expertise,” says CTRU CEO Calvyn Gilfellan.
He adds that this is a posi- tive development for both the tourism industry and small businesses. The provision of a plat- form for service providers to showcase their services or products directly to the tourism market will allow for further improvements in market access.
