Designer, manufacturer and supplier of burner equipment and combustion systems for furnaces in the stainless steel industry, The Combustion Group points to combustion technology avail- able in the industry to improve eco-efficient and cost effectiveness processes and deal with environmental issues, such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulphur oxide emissions.
The company has sophisti- cated fuel and air ratio control and burner management systems and low NOx self-recuprative and flameless oxidation technology that will improve safety and save fuel, says sales manager Cribin Moodley.
This is a specialised industry and the company is one of a few companies in South Africa which can supply combustion technology to the stainless steel industry, says Moodley.
All smelting processes require the molten material to be poured into ladles, tundishes, convertor vessels and launders at some stage of the process. These items require to be pre-heated before use to prevent thermal shock and to prevent rapid cooling of the product. The company offers a turn- key solution, including the refractory lined hood, with its raising and lowering system and support structure, he explains.
The company also supplies equipment for the annealing and pickling lines in the industry.
“We invest a lot of time in training our workforce at a significant cost to the com- pany to support the industry,” he adds.
The company is also in the process of registering with the Southern Africa Stainless Steel Development Association.
